CHALLENGE / OPPORTUNITY

When you think of an impactful, engaging virtual experience, you might not picture a tax conference. But when Avalara, a software company specializing in automated tax compliance, came to Shiraz, that was precisely what they requested. So, we set out to build an extraordinary virtual world that could bring together Avalara's expansive global audience. 

STRATEGY / EXECUTION

In partnership with 82 South, we delivered the Avalara Crush City Virtual Conference: The Future of Global Tax Compliance. This fully immersive and walkable 3D city was the ideal way to connect thousands of industry leaders and experts to discuss the complex world of tax compliance, global commerce, and technology. We designed eighteen different neighborhood environments focused on various industries and business offerings. With robust virtual architecture, surround sound, and eye-catching visuals, users felt that they "stepped inside" a customized interactive playground.

 

Over six thousand global participants roamed the easy-to-navigate virtual city, offering resources and tools that were specific to their own business needs and interests. Guests had the opportunity to discover their own paths, freely moving through networking lounges, rapid roundtable discussions, on-demand keynote speeches, and one-on-one break-out meetings. And just to make sure we "crushed" it, there was even an exclusive performance by fan-favorite R&B artist, Grammy Award nominee Aloe Blacc.

 Avalara, a software company specializing in automated tax compliance, came to Shiraz to build an engaging virtual world that could bring together Avalara's expansive global audience.

RESULTS / REACTION

Avalara Crush City was able to generate thousands of new prospects, increasing registrations by 620%. Plus, by immersing their audience in an engaging journey, they built additional brand awareness and earned media coverage in Campaign, Entrepreneur, Financial Times, Forbes, The New York Times, and The Wallstreet Journal, with 30+ journalists in attendance.
